…Take an underwater selfie at the Great Barrier Reef!

One of the wonderful things about travelling and living beyond borders is that it gives you a chance to discover and do things you never thought you would.

A dear friend recently reminded me of this privilege and left me filled with immense gratitude. It also brought back so many incredible memories, one of which I thought I would share with you today…

A few months ago, my parents came to visit me in Australia. Together, we travelled around the country and went somewhere that had been on my list for as long as I can remember: The Great Barrier Reef.

Having heard and read all about the effects of man-made pollution and climate change, I wondered whether I might find the sight of the reef disheartening and disappointing.

I couldn’t have been further from the truth. Snorkelling above the corals, I was stunned by their apparent diverse textures and incredibly mesmerising colours. I couldn’t help but wish that we, humans – once and for all – worked together in order to ensure that this natural wonder which can be seen from outer space would remain intact for years, centuries and millenniums to come.

Wouldn’t you want your children to marvel at it one day too?

Keen to capture both the moment and the feelings this experience left me with, I borrowed an underwater camera and took a few pictures of this overwhelming splendour…

And you… What have you experienced or done beyond borders that you never thought you would?
